In our programme Undiscover Northeast Tribal Tor of 17 nights & 18 days you can visit the beautiful city, Shillong which is also known as “the Scotland of the East”. Next day takes you to Cherrapunjee, wherein you will be visiting various places including Seven Sisters Falls, Dainthlen falls and Mawsmai cave. Then go to Tezpur and Ziro. Ziro is home to the Apatani tribe Culture. The Apatanis are a very interesting tribe. Unlike the other tribes, they are non-nomadic in nature. The most captivating members are the older women of the tribe, who wear facial tattoos and massive nose rings.
Now go to Majuli island and Mon. Majuli island –the abode of Mishing tribes. The island became a cultural hub where art, music, dance, drama, religion and astrology were all thriving. Mon district is the home of the Konyak Nagas. The Konyaks are famous for their tattooed faces and bodies.

Kolkata is one of largest cities of India with a very rich history and culture heritage. It is considered to be the cultural capital of India, ‘City of Joy’ as Dominique Lapierre chose to call it. It has served as British capital for a good 200 yrs. Today it is a nice blend of colonial and ethnic heritage.

After breakfast, transfer to airport to catch flight for Guwahati. Arrive at Guwahati airport and drive to Shillong (120 km / 3 hrs). On arrival transfer to hotel.

After breakfast, drive to Cherrapunjee (56 km / 2 hrs drive), which is the wettest place in the world and visit the Thankharang Park (from where one can see the plains of Bangladesh), Mawsmai cave and Nohkalikai fall.
Cherrapunjee, locally and officially known as Sohra, is 56 kms from Shillong, and a “must see” destination for all tourists. Apart from being the record holder for the heaviest rainfall, it was the headquarters of the Khasi/Jaintia province during British rule which was however shifted to Shillong in 1864, due to the inconvenience caused by excessive rain during the monsoon months. The average rainfall is 12,000 mm a year and the record for a single day was 2455 mm recorded in 1974 confirming it as the “Wettest place on Earth”.

Morning drive to Tezpur in Assam (240 km away / 5½ hrs. drive), just on the north bank of mighty river Brahmaputra. Afternoon walk around the local market.

After breakfast, drive to Ziro (320 km / 7 hrs drive), in the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
Ziro is home to the Apatani tribes and it is located in an extremely picturesque valley called Apatani Plateau surrounded by pine-covered mountains. The Apatani tribes themselves are Ziro’s greatest attraction. The older men-folk tie the hair in top-knots and tattoo the faces. Apatani women wear wooden nose plugs and tattooed their faces. However, new generation of Apatani men and women have stopped this practice of tying hair knot, nose plugs and face tattooing since early 1970s. The Apatani are good cultivators and practice both wet and terrace cultivation. Paddy cum fish culture is very popular among them.

After breakfast, drive to Majuli island (160 km / 6 hrs), in river Brahmaputra, supposed to be largest fresh water inhabited island. Majuli is a mixing pot of cultures, art and ethnicity. There are villages of Mishing tribe, monasteries of Neo-Vaishnavism practicing art and craft etc.

Full day visit to Majuli. Visit potters’ village, mask making, Vaishnavite monastery, Mishing tribal village.

After an early breakfast, drive to ferry point to cross river Bragmaputra by motorized country boat. This crossing would take about 2 hrs. Once across drive to Mon (180 km / 6 hrs) in the state of Nagaland. Mon is the home for Konyak naga tribe, famous for their head hunting practice and tattoo.

Full day visit Longwa village, 42 km, situated on the border ridge between India and Myanmar.

Today drive back to Jorhat (165 km / 5½ hrs). On the way visit Siva Doul, a temple dedicated to lord Shiva built in 1734 AD.

Today we will again enter Nagaland at the place Dimapur and drive towards Kohima (244 km / 6 hrs). Kohima is situated at an elevation of about 1400 meters and home of Angami tribe. And also this is the place where Japanese advance finally stopped during WWII.

After breakfast, drive to Khonoma village (22 km / 1 hr), walk around the village to get to know about their lifestyle. Afternoon, visit Kigwema village.

After breakfast, transfer to Imphal (140 km / 4 hrs). Afternoon, visit Kangla fort which was opened to visitors only in the year 2004. This fort is the ancient capital of Manipur. From the ancient times down till the year 1891, the Kangla fort is regarded as the most important historical and archeological site of Manipur. Regarded as the holiest place for the Manipuri’s faith. It is also one of the most popular centre of pilgrimage for all the Manipuri’s residing in Manipur, Assam, Tripura, Bangladesh and Myanmar etc.

Morning go for a day trip to Andro Cultural Village. Visit the Cultural Heritage Complex. Here the practice of fire worshipping is still continued in the temple of Panam Ningthou. It is prepared in turn by every house-hold member of the village.
The community of Andro has occupied a major portion in the map of traditional pot making culture. They still preserve the traditional rituals and norms relating to the process of pot making. Moreover, the villagers are nature loving people and always maintain a good relation with nature to keep a pollution free ecosystem. In brief, we can call the village as the living heritage village. Interact with the villagers and see pottery making. Return to Imphal. Afternoon visit the local pony farm to witness the traditional polo of Manipur and also to witness the demonstration of Arambai Hunba.

In morning, transfer to Imphal airport to connect flight for Guwahati. If time will permit visit the famous Shakti pith Kamakhya temple.
